Albert Haynesworth Debacle
Posted on June 17, 2010 at 10:50 AM.
I just got done watching a piece on NFL.com about Albert Haynesworth and the situation down in DC. Shanahan offered Haynesworth a deal that if he wanted out of DC, they would be willing to trade him if he didn't take the 21 million roster bonus, but of course the selfishness that almost all NFL players harbor inside, has reared its ugly head again. Haynesworth knowing the situation and what the Redskins were offering him to get him out of DC, he still took the money and still wants out. The way he has handled the situation has caused almost all of his teammates to turn against him. So even if he decided to participate, he wont be welcomed back by his teammates. London Fletcher, a stand up player and model teammate (I wish you would have stayed in Buffalo) has gone on the record saying this about Haynesworth; "Albert made a very selfish decision," said linebacker London Fletcher, the team's most respected veteran. "When you decide to play a team sport, you have to look at it and think about everybody involved in the situation. This is not golf, tennis, things like that, where it's an all-about-you sport. What he's decided to do is make a decision based on all-about-him." "It's no different than his attitude and approach to last year's defense," Fletcher said, "about wanting everything to revolve around him and him making plays. And if it didn't benefit him, he wasn't really willing to do it." After having Fletcher in Buffalo and knowing the quality of a person that he is, for him to speak out publicly about this situation, has me thinking that besides DeAngelo Hall, Haynesworth has turned the whole defense against him. Phillip Daniels hasn't been shy in letting the media and Haynesworth know how he feels, but for a quiet emotional leader like London Fletcher to openly criticize you to the media, it seems that Albert Haynesworth is no longer wanted in DC by his teammates. Unfortunately it is occurrences like this that makes me more of a fan of college athletics. In college players play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.

Albert making himself look real bad right now. Even though I know his ability in the trenches, I wouldn't want him on my team.

I agree with Albert on this, because if you are told one thing by the owner he should keep his word. He signed with you so that he could play in a 4-3 defense. I was a defensive tackle in high school and college and I can honestly tell you that the 3-4 nose tackle is the most physically demanding position in football. You get hit every play and doubled or tripled every play. After my games in college I would feel like I had been in a brawl because of the constant double teams, pushing, shoving, and occasional punches I would receive through out the game. This not even including the games where I played against linemen who were way inferior to me and I would get cut blocked constantly. This is why he doesn't want to play in a 3-4. You also can't free lance and make big plays because they want you to take up space and people and let the linebackers get all the glory. This is why Ray lewis is so successful. Albert also knows that he would eventually be getting cut because 100 mill is way too much for a NT. He also know that his career would come to an end quicker because of the wear and tear he will take from playing this position. I don't think he is being selfish, teams take advantage of players all the time and he has chance to take advantage of them. Its just karma in my opinion. Chris Johnson is a good example of this. He rushed for 2,000 yards and was the focal point of your team but you don't want to offer him a new contract when he has outplayed his contract.

Kingbrandon, you would be right except the fact that Haynesworth said last March when he signed his contract that he would do what ever the Washington Redskins needed him to do. Obviously that is a lie and I really hope that Dan Snyder, as much as I dislike the guy, holds Haynesworth to his contract and word, or if he gets rid of him, goes after him for the 21 million he took April 1st. Also you must be oblivious to what has been going on in that locker room to say that he is not being selfish. You are probably one of 2 people that think he is not being selfish, and Albert is the other person. Like I stated, for Fletcher to be coming at you, you must have done something wrong. He is a big crybaby and doesn't deserve the money he is getting. He isn't a good person. Do you remember when he stomped on Gurode's head after the play was over. He could have really hurt him, even killed him if that helmet gave way to his 350lb body. Now if you can really sit back and back a player of his character, then you might have to start asking yourself some questions.

You have to play that position to fully understand. The Gurode situation has nothing to do with this. Also he didn't have a helmet on. I also highly doubt the redskins will get the money back, as its not his job to seek a trade. I actually hope the skins release him so my vikings can sign him.

No you don't have to play that position. I wonder if you have actually seen the clips and did you read the articles about the situation on espn.com and nfl.com, because if so, the Redskins said that they would be open to releasing him or trading him IF he paid back most of the 21 millions he got in April. Yes I do stand corrected, Gurode did not have a helmet on, but the act alone makes his character suspect. I just cannot see any logic in supporting a player as selfish, and self centered as him. His whole team has turned against him. Remember if he holds out into the season they can withold his game checks. Also remember that he can be suspended by the team for conduct detrimental to the team. Remember the Owens situation in Philly. There things that Snyder can do to Haynesworth's paychecks and bonuses if he continues to do what he is doing now. I would also like to bring up a question to you about your comment about CJ and his contract dispute. Players can sit there and demand more money when they "out play" their contracts. Should an organization demand money back when a player does not live up to his contract? I hate all of this guaranteed money that players get and demand. If you are that good of a player you should not have to worry about guaranteed money. Teams used to be able to cut a player that wasn't performing up to a contract and not have to take such a financial loss. 99% of professional athletes are greedy and selfish, and this is a main reason why I am starting to despise professional sports and wont let my kids watch them.
